Free and Open Source Softwares (FOSS)

We all use different software in our daily life. Do we ever notice that how many of your software are original? Or How many of them are cracked or registered by fake serial keys? Do you know it is a crime?

Do you think how do they work or what is the code of that software?
You cannot download the source code because software are closed source which means code of that software is not available to everyone and not for free. But do you know there is a community who use all original software and do not use serial keys or cracks?
It is because those software does not require registration and free to use. All of these software are not only free but also you can download their code and documentation how do they work? You even can contribute by editing software and finding bugs in any software.
Some examples of such software are Mozila , VLC , Open-office , Fedora.

There are so many software that you can download and use for free. No serial key or crack required even there are whole operating systems which can be downloaded and updated for free.  You can contribute to their projects and you can edit them as you like because they use licence which allow you to use it for free and even distribute for free by giving credit to creators. This is called open source.

The concept of open source and free sharing of technological information existed long before computers. For example, cooking recipes have been shared since the beginning of human culture. Open source can pertain to businesses and to computers, software and technology.

Linux is a free version of UNIX. It was created by Linus Torvalds. He used C to write the code. He distributed it for free under GNU General Public License(Given by Richard Stallman). Now there are so many operating systems in the community which are now being used by people all over the world. Still the codes of these software are available online.
